Mayan Wisdom Keepers
CEREMONY LEADERS
We are honored to be joined by Mayan Elders—wisdom keepers from the Guatemala Region who keep the ancient ceremonial way of life alive. These elders hold a living connection to the cosmology, earth-based rituals, and oral teachings passed down through generations of Mayan lineage. They will lead the Fire and Cacao Ceremony, the Temezcal Sweat Lodge, a Mayan Cosmovision Teaching Session, and offer Mayan Astrology Readings for those interested.
Plant Medicines & Ceremonies
-
This sacred ceremony is a heart-opening ritual led by Mayan elders, combining the transformational power of fire with the heart-opening, loving energy of ceremonial cacao. The fire is treated as a living, conscious presence, carrying prayers, intentions, and gratitude to the ancestors and the spirit world. Cacao, considered a plant medicine of the heart, supports emotional openness, presence, and deep connection with yourself and the circle of women. Together, fire and cacao create a space for purification, reflection, and remembrance, helping you release what no longer serves you and invite clarity and renewal.
-
The mushroom and cacao ceremony is a guided, intentional ritual designed to facilitate inner healing, insight, and expanded awareness. Psilocybin mushrooms are used in a sacred, ceremonial container, accompanied by cacao to support grounding, heart-centered presence, and gentle navigation of the inner journey. This ceremony is optional, and participation is completely personal—non-participants are fully supported with alternative reflective or restorative practices. The focus is always on safety, reverence, and integration.
-
The temazcal is a traditional Mesoamerican sweat lodge ritual used for physical, emotional, and spiritual purification. In a dome-shaped structure, heated volcanic stones create steam infused with medicinal herbs, guided by a trained temazcalero/a through prayer, chanting, and reflection. This ceremony supports the release of tension and energetic blockages, a deeper connection to the Earth, and a sense of renewal and rebirth. Participants are encouraged to honor their own pace and may step out at any time, ensuring a fully safe and sacred experience.

A Temezcal is a traditional Mesoamerican sweat lodge ceremony used for physical, emotional, and spiritual purification. The word comes from Nahuatl and means “house of heat.”
The ceremony takes place in a small, dome-shaped structure made of stone, earth, or clay. Heated volcanic stones are placed in the center, and water infused with medicinal herbs is poured over them to create steam. Guided by a trained temazcalero/a, participants move through several rounds of prayer, chanting, silence, and reflection.
Temazcal ceremonies are traditionally used to:
Cleanse the body and nervous system
Release emotional and energetic blockages
Support rebirth, renewal, and intention-setting
Reconnect with the Earth, the elements, and the womb of creation
Participants are always encouraged to listen to their bodies and may leave the lodge at any time.
-
A Mayan Fire Ceremony is a sacred ritual led by a trained Maya spiritual guide (Ajq’ij), working with the living intelligence of fire as a messenger between the human and spiritual worlds.
During the ceremony, offerings such as copal, flowers, herbs, and candles are placed into the fire while prayers are spoken to honor:
The ancestors
The four directions and elements
The energies of the Mayan calendar
Personal and collective intentions
Fire is seen as a conscious being that helps transform, transmute, and carry prayers to Spirit.
Cacao is often shared ceremonially alongside the fire. In Mesoamerican traditions, cacao is considered a heart medicine—a gentle plant ally that supports emotional opening, connection, and presence. The cacao used is non-psychedelic and acts as a grounding, heart-centered companion to prayer and ritual.
-
A mushroom ceremony is a sacred, intentional ritual involving psilocybin mushrooms, held in a ceremonial container that emphasizes safety, respect, and integration. In Mesoamerican traditions, mushrooms have been used for centuries as a means of healing, visioning, and spiritual insight.
When included, the ceremony is:
Guided with clear intention, ritual, and prayer
Held in a safe, supportive group environment
Focused on inner listening, healing, and clarity rather than recreation
Participation is always completely optional.
There is no pressure or expectation to join. Those who choose not to participate are fully supported and may engage in alternative rest, reflection, or grounding practices during that time. This retreat honors personal sovereignty—each guest is invited to listen deeply to their body, intuition, and readiness.
